Briefing
Jharkhand was carved out of southern Bihar in 2000 and is rich in mineral resources such as coal and iron ore, supporting a substantial mining and steel industry centred on cities like Jamshedpur. The state has a large tribal (Adivasi) population with distinct cultural and linguistic traditions. Hemant Soren returned as Chief Minister after the state's 2024 assembly election.
