Briefing
Manipur is a northeastern state bordering Myanmar, centered on the Imphal Valley and surrounded by hill districts home to diverse ethnic communities. It is known for Loktak Lake with its floating phumdis, classical Manipuri dance, and a strong sporting tradition that has produced many national athletes. The state returned to elected government in February 2026 after a period of central rule prompted by prior ethnic unrest.
