Briefing
Meghalaya, the 'abode of clouds,' is a hill state known for some of the wettest places on Earth, matrilineal Khasi, Garo and Jaintia societies, and natural wonders such as living root bridges and limestone caves. Its economy is based on agriculture, mining and a growing tourism sector centered on Shillong and the surrounding highlands.
